Education and Outreach Committee

The Education and Outreach Committee plans and implements educational events that inform and engage communities on sustainability in the food system. The committee is responsible for identifying key audiences, creating content that speaks to those audiences, and organizing events where they can learn more about sustainability in their area. Volunteers may choose to serve long-term or for specific projects.

Approximate time commitment: 4-6 hours per month.

Marketing and Communications Committee

The Marketing and Communications Committee is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and growing the visibility of The Brass Tacks Initiative. The committee identifies opportunities to increase awareness of our mission, products and services; develops a brand strategy that is consistent with the needs of our audience; and implements marketing campaigns that will promote our organization through social media, email marketing, website design, printed materials, and other channels.

This committee also manages the organization's online presence by reviewing current content on all social media platforms, ensuring that the information is accurate and up-to-date. This includes responding to comments or inquiries from followers as appropriate.

Approximate time commitment: 6-8 hours per month.

Adopt A Highway

BTI adopted a two-mile section of MN 13 near Shakopee from 282 to Fairlawn Ave. We are excited to serve our community through this program! We are responsible for cleaning up litter along this section twice a year (fall and spring). If you would like to help, please email info@thebrasstacks.org to be added to the volunteer list.

Volunteer Requirements:

  1. Must be over age 12. Any volunteer under 18 must also have a parent or guardian sign a permission slip prior to clean-up day- even if the parent is also volunteering.
  2. Watch the safety video and read the MN Adopt a Highway safety and parking information: Safety and Parking - Adopt a Highway - MnDOT (state.mn.us)
  3. Wear the appropriate clothing. This includes jeans, work boots or other comfortable protective shoes, a hat or visor, and a long-sleeved shirt to protect your arms.
  4. Bring your own work gloves.

BTI will provide bottled water and high-visibility vests to all the volunteers. For more questions and to sign up, email info@thebrasstacks.org.

Meeting and parking information will be communicated to volunteers prior to each clean up day.
